‘In Conversations with Artists’: Bob Pennycook – Mixed Media Artist

The Tweed & Area Arts Council (T&AAC) is pleased to announce the fifth artist in the series ‘In Conversation with Artists’. Every three months the work of a featured artist is displayed in various venues throughout Tweed. The artist and venues are announced on the T&AAC website, social media (Facebook and Instagram) and in The Tweed News. At each venue a poster with a QR code will take the viewer to the T&AAC website where you can find a short story (like this one!) and link to a video of the artist in conversation about their work and inspiration on T&AAC’s YouTube channel.

Our featured artist for July – September, 2025 is mixed media artist Bob Pennycook. A selection of Bob’s work will be on display at the Tweed Public Library, Quinn’s of Tweed Fine Art Gallery and in the atrium of the Marble Arts Centre.

Artist Statement:

“It’s all about the landscape. Country landscape, real or imagined.

Living in the country, being surrounded by forest and pastures these past 20 years, has created the need to express, through art, my belief in the healing power of nature.

There is no rush in the country; there is no hurry. And it’s this sense of serenity I try to convey through my landscape paintings in oil, pastel, acrylic and print.

I work with landscape shapes, both real and often simply remembered, and I paint a world of colour of my own creation.”

Bio:

“I’ve been a working artist for 30 years and my work has been featured in juried shows in both Canada and the United States.

I am a multi media artist creating landscapes in acrylic, oil and cold wax, pastel and by using the printmaking techniques of relief printing and monotype.

I’m an elected member of the Society of Canadian Artists and the Colour and Form Society, and I’ve taught art both in my home studio and throughout North America.

My work is part of collections in Canada, England, Japan, the U.S. and Costa Rica.”
