May ‘Soft Opening’ at the Renovated Marble Arts Centre
Tweed & Company Theatre has been working since last fall on the new Atrium and interior theatre renovations at the MAC. Things are progressing on both fronts, though not without some delays. In May a ‘soft opening’ of the theatre space featured shows by Whiskey Jack (‘Stories and Songs of Stompin’ Tom) and Daniel Champagne (guitar virtuoso from Australian, presented by the Tweed & Area Arts Council). Local Heather Cardle Photographer captured these great shots!
A full season is now underway at the MAC, starting with Great Lake Swimmers later in May, followed by ‘Dear Rita – A Musical Tribute to Rita McNeil’ on June 5th-8th, plus much more! Check out the full season details for both the Marble Arts Centre and the Tweed and Company Outdoor Stage, and enjoy great performances right here in our backyard.
The project includes:
- Proper dressing rooms for professional actors and bigger name acts
- Safe and level full-width stage to allow for larger performances
- Updated technical equipment and standardized stage to more easily transfer shows between venues
- Improved accessibility features (e.g., front entrance ramp, automated doors, improved seating options, sound loop technology)
- A revitalized theatre auditorium space – refinished floors, repaired and repainted walls, a curtained stage, new lighting and enhanced power supply
- More space on site for storage and show production
- Larger and more suitable lobby and event space
- Improved landscaping
To date over $500,000 in grants and donations have been received from government agencies, foundations, and generous local businesses/ organizations/ and individuals. Approximately $50,000 more is needed to fully fund the project. To learn more or to donate, visit the Atrium pages on the Marble Arts Centre website.
