‘In Conversation with Artists’: Gordon Wright

The Tweed & Area Arts Council (T&AAC) is pleased to announce the seventh artist in the series ‘In Conversation with Artists’. Every three months the work of a featured artist is displayed in various venues throughout Tweed. The artist and venues are announced on the T&AAC website, social media (Facebook and Instagram) and in The Tweed News. At each venue a poster with a QR code will take the viewer to the T&AAC website where you can find a short story (like this one!) and link to a video of the artist in conversation about their work and inspiration on T&AAC’s YouTube channel.

Our featured artist for January – April, 2026 is Gordon Wright. A selection of Gordon’s work will be on display at the Tweed Public Library, Quinn’s of Tweed Fine Art Gallery and in the atrium of the Marble Arts Centre.

Artist Statement:

“Beauty flows out of simplicity”

Bio:

Gordon Wright is a self-taught artist with a passion for life!  He took up paper and pencil as a boy and started to draw. The joy of creating quickly grew into a life-long love. In his own words: “I shrugged off formal training so that I would not be influenced by anyone else’s style or influence other than my own.” His work is immediately recognizable with a sense of whimsy in each piece. Crooked houses, bright yellow skies and huge choppy waves suggest an artist who isn’t confined by convention.

Take a listen to the conversation with Gordon and you’ll discover a humble Renaissance man whose varied interests keep him well occupied.

View the video interview with Gordon on our YouTube channel; read a 2021 profile of Gordon in ‘Arabella’, or follow him on Facebook and Instagram! Gordon is also featured in our online ‘Artist Gallery’.
