Tweed & Area Arts Council presents
"The Rebel of Hungerford"

A play written and performed by Mark Lesage

The year 1837 was not a happy time in Upper Canada. The young colony was going through some serious growing pains that eventually erupted into open Rebellion.
History seems to have made little of this affair. But if you look a little more closely you will find that political dissatisfaction was widespread and particularly violent in our own area. Pierre Lesage was one of those early settlers who were caught in the middle of the turmoil. Arrested for treason, he is eventually acquitted with the help of a young lawyer by the name of John A, MacDonald, Pierre recounts his experiences and, in doing so, helps us to consider the legal foundation of a colony and the role of those who saw themselves as ordained to rule, and those who find that rule contrary to their principles of justice. This play is dedicated to my father,Jim Lesage, who taught me to always root for the underdog.

Please be aware!
This is not an objective historical narration. Pierre will recount his experiences complete with all the sectarian and political prejudices of the age. His opinions are not necessarily those of the author.

Tweed &Area Arts Council presents
"Behind the Camera"
with John and Janet Foster

"Join the Tweed & Area Arts Council at the Marble Arts Center in Actinolite (in the ,Greater Tweed Area,) to enjoy a presentation of the spectacular photography of John and Janet Foster. Long-time residents of the Tweed area, but recognized internationally for their talent, they have a deep appreciation for Hastings County and what it offers in wildlife and natural habitats. For the last 40 years they have brought a love of nature to their television documentaries.

'Behind the Camera' is a blend of video and still images that take you to some of John and Janet's favourite places for filming and photography. They will share their early discovery of Algonquin Park, their love of canoeing and paddling in the early morning mist. They will take us to the wonderfully clear green waters and soaring limestone cliffs of the Bruce Peninsula, and travel to Nova Scotia in winter to witness hundreds of bald eagles. We ,ll see the extraordinary flights of immense flocks of shorebirds that migrate south from the high arctic in mid-summer.And, finally, their local journeys to film winter snow squalls will show us the dramatic icy scenes along the lakeshore of Prince Edward County. The art of nature photography and film making, and 'being in the right place at the right time' are central themes of the presentation."
