Who Should be Involved in T&AAC?

Some members are supporters without direct involvement in the arts. Others are painters, potters, actors, musicians, dancers, and writers. T&AAC welcomes everyone with an interest in the arts.

What Does T&AAC Do?

On its own and with partners, over the years T&AAC has:

  • Developed the Marble Arts Centre - MAC - in Actinolite
  • Produced the annual 'Art in the Park'
  • Presented the T&AAC Student Theatre classes and productions
  • Hosted productions by the Marble Arts Players, Tweed Summer Youth Theatre, Tweed & Co. Theatre and others at the MAC
  • Sponsored an annual writers' competition
  • Provided space at the MAC for the annual Tweed & Area Studio Tour and Alberta Young Jamborees
  • Shown classic movies at the MAC and Moira Place long-term care facility ....and much, much more.

Making the Case for Culture - Why Should We Support the Arts in Our Community?

The reasons to support culture are many. Art has a value for its own sake and for its contributions to cultural development. But is also makes wider contribution. Communities take pride in identifying their distinctive culture and creativity. Economic benefits to the community go hand in hand with the arts.*

How Can I Support the T&AAC?
Membership Has its Benefits

The Tweed & Area Arts Council (T&AAC) is a charitable, not-for-profit organization run entirely by volunteers. Established in 2006, membership is open to all who wish to join. T&AAC was founded on the belief that the arts are for everyone, and our vision is to enrich the cultural life of the community by promoting awareness of and appreciation for all of the arts. We own and operate the Marble Arts Centre (MAC) in Actinolite – an accessible, licenced venue with comfortable theatre seating that hosts many performances each year in an historic hall with wonderful acoustics. The first performance at the MAC was held in May 2010; it officially opened in June 2011.

Charitable tax receipts are issued for memberships and donations.

  • Feeling good about showing tangible support for arts and culture … a vibrant arts scene benefits people of all ages in our community, and attracts new residents and visitors
  • Helping to bring ‘Art in the Park’ and great shows by local, regional, national and international performers to be enjoyed by local residents and visitors to the GTA (Greater Tweed Area)

About T&AAC Programming: The Marble Arts Student Theatre and the Marble Arts Players provide opportunities for local youth and people of all ages in the Tweed area to foster their inner artist! Concerts covering a wide range of musical genres have graced our stage. We also host the annual ‘Art in the Park’ event, and occasional concerts at the historic lake-side Tweed Kiwanis Pavilion. The renowned Tweed & Company Theatre has roots in the MAC, and regularly performs here. The MAC has also hosted shows as part of the Ontario Festival of Small Halls’ fall concerts and ‘Deck the Halls’ Christmas series. We have partnered with The Heart of Hastings Hospice in 2019 and 2020 on the ‘Music with a Heart’ series to raise awareness and funds for both organizations.
