NEWS FROM THE BOARD

UPDATE ON THE MARBLE CHURCH ARTS CENTRE RESTORATION AND MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR

The current economic climate is having a dramatic effect on charitable organizations and on the agencies that support them, most notably on foundations whose capital is generally invested in the markets. Because one of our guiding principles is that “no work will be done until the money is on hand” for a particular part of the project, it has been necessary for the T&AAC to revise its timeline for the completion of the Marble Church Arts Centre. However, it WILL be open for limited use very soon, hopefully by mid-June, as soon as the washrooms are completed, emergency exit signs are installed and the facility is inspected by the municipality and the fire department.

There is much that can be done by the membership to get the centre ready to open – such things as scraping and painting inside and out, repairs to the front lobby entrance, general cleaning and landscaping. See below for upcoming “work bees”.

Please feel free to e-mail me at any time at don.herbertson@iistweed.ca with your comments and suggestions. Remember, YOU are the Tweed & Area Arts Council.
