Marble Arts Centre – Community Update #4
In May, T&AAC learned that the main foyer/bell tower at the MAC in had some structural issues that resulted in our taking a decision to re-locate upcoming events during the period May to August. We initiated fundraising in early July, and have received generous donations from visitors, community members, a garden party, and local service clubs such as the Tweed Lions. ‘Art in the Park’ also raised funds, and the ‘fish fry’ at the event was a success - so much so that we will do it again twice in 2019! The priority essential work to remove the bell and install a reinforcing floor was completed mid-July – and the safety-related restrictions on use of the MAC have been lifted! Remaining essential work includes fixing the tower roof (we are hoping that insurance will cover that!), drainage improvements to divert water flow from the roof/driveway away from the building, and electrical upgrades. As of August 31, 2018 we are at 67% of our goal! We are also reviewing potential opportunities for grants from foundations, other organizations, and government programs. Your support through membership, attendance at events/fundraisers, and donations is very much appreciated.
